Heaven’s Secrets ~ WILDER
And He brought him outside [his tent into the
starlight] and said, Look now toward the heavens and count the stars–if you are
able to number them. Then He said to him, So shall your descendants be. [Heb.
11:12.] ~ Genesis 15:5 AMPC
God blessed us with an impromptu two-night camping trip
to Peninsula State Park in Door County. To say the scenery was breath-taking
would be an understatement. We got to swim in the lake all three days, Brad and
the girls enjoyed smores, I had my 1st (and 2nd) Peach
Cobbler Pudgy Pie, and we had basically no cell service – no notifications, no
interruptions. And even though the blow-up queen mattress felt more like an
amusement park ride than a bed, one of my favorite parts was lying under the
stars. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them shining so brilliantly. I just love
how God can—and will—speak to us anywhere. Occasionally, though, He’ll draw us “outside”
to put His majesty and wonder on display, reminding us that He is God and we
are not.
In Genesis 15, Abram was in his tent, focusing on the lack
in his life. When the Lord’s telling Abram who He was didn’t help, God
pulled Abram outside of his tent and small focus to show him. We
all have our own routines, which are useful for getting things accomplished.
But sometimes, we can become so dependent upon them that we fail to stand—or bow—in
awe of the wonder and majesty of God. When that happens, God does with us as He
did with Abram: He takes us outside of our small focus to show off His
majesty and gives us a glimpse of His brilliant perspective.
Whether it’s from watching the news, scrolling through
social media, or your current circumstances, if life is becoming too dark and
your focus a little too small, ask God to take you “outside,” so you, too, can
catch a glimpse of His brilliant wonder and majesty.
