Soul Refreshment

Dear God ~ Cory Asbury

he refreshes my soul... ~ Psalms 23:3 NIV

We all need a touch from God, a whisper, a reminder that He's with us. Maybe it’s been a rough week, but you received a call, email, or letter, letting you know that you are loved - that was God. Maybe it’s your birthday and you're feeling a little down because things didn't go as planned, but there’s a surprise birthday parade past your house - that was God. Maybe, like at our house, your youngest child had another bad dream and ended up in your bed, but an hour later, woke you with her laughter as she dreamt about something wonderful - that was God.

We never know when or how God will show up to refresh our souls, but as we look for Him, we're sure to find Him. This year might not be going as you planned. The school year might close differently than you'd hoped and expected, but during each leg of the journey, God has been there.

If, today, you feel as though you need a touch, a hug, a smile, or just a word of encouragement from your heavenly Father, don't fret. He's always with you and is sending refreshment to your soul, often in surprising ways.

No Fear in the Flood

My Feet are on the Rock ~ I AM THEY

...When the enemy comes in like a flood... ~ Isaiah 59:19 NKJV

Has your life been flooded by the enemy, lately? We've had multiple illnesses since Christmas and now the flu. When everyone is sick, or not able to work to care for sick kids, you start to feel alone. The enemy goes to great lengths to isolate, and ultimately destroy, us. When we're too sick to attend church, life groups, and school, we become isolated, which makes us easier prey.

But when you're in Christ Jesus, you're not alone. "The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves…" (Zephaniah 3:17 NIV). Though the enemy floods your life with hardships, remember Who is by your side. "In every circumstance, even when the enemy comes in like a flood, you will know that your best friend is a Lion and you need have no fear," (Cooke, Graham. "The Kind Intentions of God." The Soaking Compendium. 2019).

Isaiah 59:19 doesn't end with the enemy's attack, but with the Lord's victory: "When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will put him to flight." You're not alone in this fight. The Lord is with you: He rejoices over you with singing, quiets you with His love, refreshes your soul, forgives all your sins, heals all your diseases, redeems your life from the pit, crowns you with love and compassion, and satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s, (Zephaniah 3:17; Psalm 23:3; Psalm 103:3-5).

Remember, when the enemy comes in like a flood, Victory is already on your side and His Name is Jesus!

Gravity

Reckless Love ~ Cory Asbury

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock ~ Matthew 7:24 NKJV

Gravity is the force that keeps you on earth. When a rocket is trying to launch into space, gravity is the force that works against it, making lift-off difficult. The rocket succeeds when the force propelling it up is stronger than the force pulling it down.

We all experience this: God gives us a vision or calls us to “go,” and the enemy immediately pounces, heaping on distracting and discouraging circumstances, trying to thwart God’s plans for our lives. In the face of such adversity—forces that tear away jobs, friends, homes, family, and health—how can we be propelled forward? We must be like the wise man who built his house upon the rock, the powerful and unchanging Word of God.
·         When we root ourselves in God, we will never fail to bear fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
·         When we have need, God provides in ways we can’t imagine (Deuteronomy 29:5; Matthew 14:17-21)
·         When we need wisdom, God is always there (Matthew 6:33; Matthew 7:8)
·         When we suffer from dis-ease, God is our Healer (Psalm 23:3; Psalm 103:3-4; Matthew 9:21-22)
Standing upon the Rock, though the storms come and beat upon the house, it stands, (Matthew 7:25).

It’s been crazy-hard transitioning here, away from our church family, friends, the warmth, and the life we built together for 17 years. But just as the rocket must persevere, depending upon the ignited fuel to propel it past gravity, we must believe in and speak God’s truths over ourselves until they manifest in our lives, propelling us past the lies of the enemy that are meant to tear and hold us down.

What is the enemy trying desperately to keep God from launching in your life? Ask Holy Spirit to give you promises, remembering that when you build your life upon the Rock of His Word, you will stand!
