Sand Sculptures

Dancing in the Minefields ~ Andrew Peterson

[Love] always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. ~ 1 Corinthians 13:7 NIV

If you’ve ever walked along the beach, perhaps you’ve enjoyed how the sand feels. The sand at Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida is soft and cool, smoothly pouring out of your hand like granules of sugar. It’s beautiful! Not too deep into the water, however, the wet sand no longer pours smoothly out of your hands. Instead, it drops down in wet glops. Marriage and life have seasons which feel like sugary and gloppy sand, and they can move from sunny skies to hurricanes in a heartbeat.

It’s during the stormy seasons that you must shift from cruise control to being purposefully and perseveringly engaged. It’s a season like when the bills are already piling up and your spouse’s hours get cut. Or when the world is already falling apart, your dear friend has cancer, your kids have drama at school, and your spouse tells you awful news. But life and marriage aren’t just about one extreme or the other. There is a Designer who wants to use all of it.

Every year, the beaches in southwest Florida are filled with beautiful sand sculptures. The sculptors spend hours creating a unique design. The designs are everything from ornate sandcastles to book characters and scenes to anything imaginable – and it’s all amazing! But like the sand, our lives and marriages will never become a work of art if we quit before the Designer is finished.

Sixteen years ago, today, Brad and I said, “I do.” The promise made has been the promise kept, even through the choppiest of storms. But we’ve learned over the years that in the roughest seasons, it’s important to put our lives—and our marriage—into the hands of the Designer and allow Him to create something beautiful.

If your life or marriage feels more like wet, gloppy sand that’s been tossed about by stormy seas, I want to encourage you to not quit. Instead, place your life and your marriage into the Designers hands and watch as He shapes it into something amazing!

Holy Spirit Eyes

Give Me Your Eyes ~ Brandon Heath

Love... Always looks for the best... ~ 1 Corinthians 13:4,7 MSG

People are messy.

We carry baggage longer than we should, allowing our circumstances to dictate our responses toward others. Weary and wounded, we’re almost daring someone to say something, as if it gives us permission to pounce upon an unsuspecting victim. People are messy.

But God is holy. And trustworthy. He is generous and gracious.

Some years ago, I started asking God to give me Holy Spirit eyes, so that I could see people and circumstances the way He does. In my early 20’s, as my relationship with Jesus grew, and as I saw other Christians pray boldly—on behalf of myself and others—I believed this was something I could and should ask.

Though God honored my request, it didn’t make me perfect. I still get to choose the lens through which I see. When I allow my circumstances to get the better of me, then I will only see people through pain, or frustration and fear. But when I remember that I am a child of God—and not of my circumstances—then I get to see! Having your eyes anointed by Holy Spirit allows you to see the leadership qualities in the boy who’s been fighting with everyone. It allows you to see otherwise hidden beauty. But it also allows you to see pain just below the surface of someone who is hurtful. This gift isn’t for personal gain, but for healing.

Being anointed with Holy Spirit eyes, allows you to see truth about others, the way God sees, enabling you to pray or speak life over others, setting them free, (John 8:32). “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news ...” (Isaiah 52:7 NIV). Lord, anoint us with Holy Spirit eyes, that we could speak truth and life over circumstances and others. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

Even an Ugly Light

Grace So Glorious ~ Elevation Worship

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ ~ Philippians 1:6 NKJV

Insecurities.
We all have them. I find it ironic that when I’m walking closer with God and gaining victory in one area, the devil always shines a light on an area that needs work. And I feel overwhelmed and defeated.

But then I remember my promises: “Blessed is the [one] who trusts God, whose trust is in the Lord. Love…always trusts,” (Jeremiah 17:7 ESV; 1 Corinthians 13:7 NIV). The devil’s ugly light shining on my insecurities is part of trust. Intimacy, the result of trust, means I don’t have any secrets or any areas I withhold. This is especially true of intimacy with my Father God. Romans 8:28 says God uses all things for the good of those who love Him. The devil’s ugly light is part of “all things.” But God doesn’t use it to shame me. Instead, He holds out His hand and says, “Dearest one, don’t be afraid. I’m going to walk you through this. The closer you walk with Me, the less this will affect you. Allow My majesty to fill in those empty places, until you aren’t bothered by them anymore. Then you will stand empowered, defeating the enemy where he stands.”

Don’t let insecurities claim you any longer. Start, right now, by opening your hand and giving the pain, hurt, and lies to Father God. Watch as your trust in Father God blesses your life with victory, freedom, and intimacy with Him.
